๐Ÿงญ Choose your account type

Individual vs Organization is a one-time decision that affects your public seller name and enrollment speed.

Decide: Individual or Organization account

15 min

Your developer account type determines the seller name shown publicly on every App Store listing โ€” choose deliberately.

Individual

  • Enrolls fast (usually 1โ€“2 days).
  • Your personal legal name is publicly shown as the seller on the App Store.
  • No paperwork beyond a government ID.

Organization

  • Your company name is shown as the seller.
  • Requires a D-U-N-S number (free, but can take 1โ€“2 weeks), registered legal-entity status, a website on a domain associated with the organization, and the enrolling person having legal authority to sign on the org's behalf.
  • Unlocks team member roles in App Store Connect.

Quick decision helper:

  • Publishing under your own name and want speed? โ†’ Individual.
  • Have an LLC/company, want a brand identity as the seller, or need a team? โ†’ Organization.

โš ๏ธ Pitfall

Converting Individual โ†’ Organization later is a manual Apple Support process (you keep apps and reviews, but it takes back-and-forth and your D-U-N-S must be ready). Pick deliberately now rather than 'fixing it later'.

Request a D-U-N-S number (Organization only)

30 min

Organizations must have a Dun & Bradstreet D-U-N-S number before enrolling.

  1. Check first: search Apple's D-U-N-S lookup tool โ€” many registered companies already have one (banks and suppliers create them).
  2. If none exists, request one through Apple's tool โ€” it's free for Apple developers. Ignore D&B's paid 'expedite' upsells.
  3. Enter your legal entity details exactly as they appear on your formation documents: full legal name (including LLC/Inc./GmbH), registered address, and phone.
  4. New numbers take up to ~5 business days to issue, then up to 2 more weeks to propagate into Apple's enrollment systems.

Do this now, in parallel with finishing your app โ€” it's the longest external dependency in the whole process.

โš ๏ธ Pitfall

Mismatched legal names (abbreviations, missing entity suffix, an old address) make Apple's lookup silently fail, and corrections via D&B take additional days. Copy the name character-for-character from your registration documents.
